Another great week for CraftsforCharity

It has been another fantastic week for the Crafts Directory with another five crafts businesses joining the directory. Somebody pointed out recently how the crafts directory 'has some very fine talent on it'...and I totally agree. All of the crafts listed in the directory are extremely tallented and produce high quality items. It is such a bonus being able to do this directory as I get to visit all the fantastic websites, shops and blogs by these crafts people..I have even bought one or two things off some of them too!

Sunflowers
So, to welcome the new crafts businesses whome have joined the directory this week I would like to thank:

The first thank you goes to Claire Manwani Potter and her very unique handmade ceramics, many of which are functional, including items that have a use around the home. You have just got to visit this website to see the ceramic cat...a must for any cat lover!

The second thank you goes to Bigbluebed and her Etsy shop selling handmade textiles, flowers and Dorset buttons. Bigbluebed will also create custom Dorset buttons for your sewing, crafts, outfits or to decorate your accessories.

The third thank you goes to Craftee Cardz and her blog containing information about her craft experiences, ideas and where she can be found to purchase her lovely cards. Craftee Cardz produce Handmade greetings cards for all occasions: birthdays, Christmas, Easter, as well as personalised cards.

The fourth thank you goes to Pixie Doodles who as a needle felting artist, specialises in making unique, one of a kind teddy bears, animals, creatures, brooches and felted jewellery. All of her creations are needle felted by hand using only the best quality materials.

The directory is now a great resource for anybody wanting to buy handmade, however their are a few categories that are empty...so keep spreading the word!

Too Expensive to Promote my Craft

I was a little annoyed recently (and I rarely get annoyed), when a facebook 'friend' suggested that many people were not joining my crafts directory because they couldn't afford it in these 'hard' times...

Excuse me? But the minimum donation is £2 - just £2 and for that you get a listing for life, plenty of promotion and all the money is going to charity. There is no catch at all. And did they realise that whilst trying to promote their craft using 'free' tools such as Facebook, Twitter, forums etc it is still costing money (electricity, PC wear and tear and not to mention loss of production).

Piggy Bank
I just don't get comments like that and they are very negative. I am trying my hardest to do something good with this for everybody. This week a fellow crafter informed me that they had received hits to their website from the crafts directory. And this can also be confirmed by the click counts against all the directory entries.

The directory is obviously ranked highly by Google for crafts/charity combination searches, and the directory get hits every day from people searching for this. It is even ranked on page two of Google for 'crafts directory' search, and that is after just 3 months of being online!

Rant over lol...on a lighter note I need to catch up on the latest entries to the directory, so a huge thank you to:

The first thank you goes to Charters Jewellery and her wonderful blog about her one of a kind jewellery creations. Charters jewellery is totally unique and she is always experimented with her techniques and mediums.

The second thank you goes to Happy Sheep Designs and the photographic work of Judith M. Passant. As well as providing photographic prints and cards, she also provides a photographic service for artists and craftspeople.

The third thank you goes to Busy Ted cards that are also created by Judith M. Passant. As well as unique cards featuring Busy Ted you can also purchase other merchandise such as notebooks, rulers mousemats and keyrings.

The fourth thank you goes to Wood Tattoos and their Pyrography designs. A wide range of designs and gifts are available incorporating the art of Pyrography and Simon Easton has also published a book "Woodburning with Style" (Fox Chapel Publishing).

Thank you all, and thank you for reading my rant!

Back from my Hols

I have fallen way behind with my Thank you blogs again so apologies everyone for that!

I shouldn't really give excuses, but I have recently got from a lovely holiday in Cornwall and have lots of custom jewellery requests that have built up while I was away. That and trying to fit everything in around two very demanding children who are on their school holidays. It's going to be a very long 4 or 5 weeks and I think I am going to need another holiday by the time they go back to school.

Mick - Shpangle Jewellery
This is Round 1 of several thank you blogs while I try to catch up. The directory is going very well, with 62 crafts now listed and it has raised £268 + £47.39 for charity! I am debating whether to expand it to allow crafters to submit stories about how specific or generally charities have helped them in life...if you think it is a bad/good idea please let me know.

The newest members (and apologies for those I haven't got around to yet) are:

The first thank you goes to Coconut Blush and their handmade soap from the heart of the Peak District. As well as making natural soaps, bath products and gifts they specialise in soap for sufferers of dry skin, eczema and psoriasis.

The second thank you goes to Raggedy Homespun Crafts who make handmade dolls and home accessories. Using only good quality cotton and fabrics they make personalised stitcheries and bunting, home accessories and of course their unique ragdolls.

The third thank you goes to Pipistrelle and her Etsy shop selling beautiful Crochet bags, scarves, brooches, keyrings, purses...in fact everything crochet. A notable feature of her work is the seamless, flowing nature her designs.

The fourth thank you goes to ZaksJewel and their gorgeous looking website selling modern and stylish sterling silver jewellery. Their aim is to produce beautiful, unique pieces of jewellery that make people happy, and many of the pieces are one-offs.

...more Thank you's to come soon!

Many thanks again to everyone for all your support with the directory.
